Spatial was founded in 1986, and had one main product: ACIS, the first commercially available 3D modeling kernel. Through subsequent years, Spatial added products to its portfolio that enabled ISVs mostly in the CAD/CAM industries, to build better applications, faster. These components included extensions and updates to the ACIS modeler, visualization products, as well as acquisitions in translator technology.
A significant transformation took place at Spatial when it was purchased by Dassault Systèmes in late 2000. Spatial Corp. became a subsidiary with the backing of an established market leader in 3D design and product lifecycle management (PLM).
Through its relationship with Dassault Systèmes, Spatial retains the creativity of a small, vibrant company while gaining the resources, discipline, and access to core technologies as a subsidiary of one of the most influential entities in the industry. On the business side, Spatial's highly skilled and experienced executive team honed operations and instituted a new Partner-for-Success model, in which most pricing is royalty-based, closely tying its own revenue to the success of its customers.
